1. В патче 2.5 захват действительно усложнен. 2. Аран теперь можно захватить.

I have just fnished some fairly lengthy boarding testing, and here's what I found wth regards to results, poblems, and the odd anomally.
Target Ship: Goner Aran - No Shields, No Turrets and Stationary. Drop Ship: Boron Angel. Marines: 10, 5 star (100) across the board. Starting from the same position each time, and using the Piracy command.
Test 1 - 5 Marines, 10 attempts, 10 failures. No surprise from what I've read.
Test 2 - 6 Marines, 10 attempts, 1 successful, 9 failures.
Test 3 -7 Marines, 10 attempts, 3 successful (all 7 marines surviving), 7 failures.
Test 4 - 8 Marines, 10 attempts, 6 successful (anywhere from 1 to all 8 surviving), 4 failures.
Test 5 - 9 Marines, 10 attempts, 3 successful (from 1 to 9 marines surviving), 7 failures.
Test 6 - 10 Marines, 10 attempts, 8 successful ( 8 to 10 survivors), 2 failures.
The problem I found was that the boarding parties were being split, launch 5 marines, and you get a team of 2, and one of 3. 6 marines gives you 2 teams of 3, 7 marines 4 and 3, 8 marines 2 of 4, 9 marines you have 3 teams of 3, and 10 marines a 4 and two 3's.
If for example you launched 7 marines, and both teams reached the target together, it was successful, however in the majority of cases one of the teams would board, be eliminated before the other team had even made hull contact (and subsequently eliminated!)
In the case of 9 and 10 marines, most of the failures came from them going in 3 seperate waves, with each one being eliminated bfore the next one entered the ship.
In one case with 9 marines, 2 teams (6 marines) entered together, and cleared deck 4 before being eliminated, the third team following them should have had a clear run throgh to deck 4, as the way had already been cleared, but only cleared deck 1 before they were eliminated.

7 marines will be able to take large ships without much of a problem
with 8 marines you are guarenteed to take the ship without any losses.
this is assuming theres no defence on the ship other than the built in defence.
if there is a strong defence force, ie alot of skilled marines, then u will most likly need 2 groups of marines to take a ship, first to reduce the defence marines, and the 2nd to take the ship.
however, more ships will now have boarding counter messures in place |

If 7 marines will be able to take large ships without much of a problem, and with 8 marines you are guarenteed to take the ship without any losses, then a 50% success rate from 40 boarding operations with 7 - 10 marines, with a third of these successful boardng operations having casualties, would lead me to believe that something aint quite right!!
On the plus side, I can confirm that the Aran is still boardable in 2.5 RC3!! |
